Write about your work

Publishing is soooo good for you! Just seeing your name in print: that feels great. With a picture, even better.

And your publications are yours for ever: on your CV, and on your LinkedIn profile.

Publishing has subtler benefits too. Benefits you might appreciate even more than promoting ‘your brand’. There are many things we only understand fully when we have explained them to someone else. Writing discovers gaps in your own thinking you might never otherwise have found. As my philosophy professor liked to say, urging us to write as simply and clearly as possible:

The best writing style for a philosopher is one that reveals his errors before his colleagues do.
– David Armstrong

No matter how the technology evolves, being able to write well about your work is a professional skill that will never leave you. It will always speak well for you.

If you can’t write clearly, you probably don’t think nearly as well as you think you do.
— Kurt Vonnegut

Writing well takes practice, and support when you are starting out. The Technical Publication Group is here to help. If you have a topic in mind we will help you pull your ideas into shape. Subeditors can help you sharpen your language and remove ambiguity. If English is not your first language, we can spot and fix problems of grammar.

Do something worth writing about – or write about something worth doing.
— Brooke Allen

The Technical Publication Group aims to have you look good in print.
