Subject: Jdb + J >= Q?

It’s nice to see a free version available to play with, but
proprietary tools are never viable in the long run. Did anyone think
of writing an open-source equivalent of the whole Q stack, including
Kdb+?
A practical way would be to add the database functionality to J, if
it’s not there yet… Seeing how small the distro for Q is, this
shouldn’t be impossible, would it?
Cheers,
Alexy

Have a look at http://www.jsoftware.com/jwiki/JDB – while I wouldn’t
compare it directly to Kdb+, maybe it fits your needs.

I don’t see how adding the functionality to J addresses your issue.
As I understand it, J is also both free (as in beer) and proprietary (as in not-open-source).
