QInsightPad public beta is available

Just wanted to announce that project I’ve been working on and off forabout a year now is at the stage when its ready for public eye :).It’s kdb+ client windows application - written in native C++ withminimal external dependencies (no .Net/Java required, MFC isstatically linked in exe).Hopefully some of you could find it useful and let me know what it’sreally missing or what’s good/bad or annoying about it.I have some things in mind that I will be implementing in a nearfuture, but your feedback can really steer me in any sensibledirection with evolution of that little app.http://www.qinsightpad.comCheers,_Oz_P.S. x64 version is also available, though it’s almost a blind-build,my primary development/debugging platform is Win32.

Hi _Oz_ ,i just tested your windows client, and i must say that i really like it. Btw it works without any problems. :-)But one thing i am missing is the feature to chart a time series. If you can add this feature i will definitely change to this client.Cheers,KimAm 05.02.2011 16:45, schrieb _Oz_:> Just wanted to announce that project I’ve been working on and off for> about a year now is at the stage when its ready for public eye :).> It’s kdb+ client windows application - written in native C++ with> minimal external dependencies (no .Net/Java required, MFC is> statically linked in exe).>> Hopefully some of you could find it useful and let me know what it’s> really missing or what’s good/bad or annoying about it.>> I have some things in mind that I will be implementing in a near> future, but your feedback can really steer me in any sensible> direction with evolution of that little app.>> http://www.qinsightpad.com>> Cheers,> _Oz_>> P.S. x64 version is also available, though it’s almost a blind-build,> my primary development/debugging platform is Win32.>

I’ve played around a bit with QInsightPad and I really enjoy it! :-)I have only one suggestion as for now: could dictionaries be displayedin more user-friendly format? E.g. as a two column table ([key |value])?Cheers :)On Feb 5, 4:45?pm, _Oz_ <zakharovo…> wrote:> Just wanted to announce that project I’ve been working on and off for> about a year now is at the stage when its ready for public eye :).> It’s kdb+ client windows application - written in native C++ with> minimal external dependencies (no .Net/Java required, MFC is> statically linked in exe).>> Hopefully some of you could find it useful and let me know what it’s> really missing or what’s good/bad or annoying about it.>> I have some things in mind that I will be implementing in a near> future, but your feedback can really steer me in any sensible> direction with evolution of that little app.>> http://www.qinsightpad.com>> Cheers,> Oz>> P.S. x64 version is also available, though it’s almost a blind-build,> my primary development/debugging platform is Win32.</zakharovo…>

Nice tool !
Suggestion: export to Excel, graphs ( kdb studio style )
Regards
Franck</franck.rethore>

Thank you!Export to CSV (loadable in excel) is available (Right-click on Grid,Export selection/all to CSV…).Thinking about implementing graphs the way it would make mostsense…Meanwhile 0.97 version was built (will be available on site shortly). One nasty bug fixed (crash on some dicts in table cells in somecases).Several options added: - group nested namespaces under parent one in namespace explorer - show dictionaries in grid as key/value table - show lists (except strings) in grid as index/value table (either is exportable to CSV same way, of course)Added button Query to Properties, to query & see in output entitywhose properties shownAlso, couple of tips:- If you wonder what q keyword under cursor means - hitting F1 mighthelp- Want to see what Referenced global/Caller(Used in function) is about- double-click on its name in properties. (Use back/forward buttons to navigate along the path you’ve jumped)Best Regards,_Oz_On Feb 13, 2:31?am, Franck <franck.reth…> wrote:> Nice tool !> Suggestion: export to Excel, graphs ( kdb studio style )> Regards> Franck>> On 10 Feb 2011, at 16:23, “k.os.tao” <k.os…> wrote:>>>>>>>> > Oz,>> > Good work. 0.97 version is available @ www.qinsightpad.comFull changelog.txt is included in zip.

Interactive graphs are implemented in latest qpad alpha, along with
some other stuff.
While it’s still being polished, stable enough to have some fun
with. :)

Suggestions and bugreports are welcome as always.

I think a nice feature would be for each QPad to remember the serverfor which it is connected to, i find myself working with multipleservers at once, and switching between pads loses the original serverlink. On Mar 13, 5:56?am, _Oz_ <zakharovo…> wrote:> Interactive graphs are implemented in latest qpad alpha, along with> some other stuff.> While it’s still being polished, stable enough to have some fun> with. :)> Link to alpha binaries and explanation/tips on using charts in this> post:http://www.qinsightpad.com/qipadphpbb_bb1/viewtopic.php?t=6>> Suggestions and bugreports are welcome as always.</zakharovo…>

There are command line parameters that can be used in shortcuts: --server (force-connect on startup) and --profile (load/store settings under this sub-branch) .QPad using them when you right-click on the server node and use LaunchQPad - new instance is launched with server and profile set to serversymbol.Last connected server, though, always stored in the root, which couldbe changed, of course. If you want it to be improved, Ivan - please, write me directly orpost on qinsightpad.com forum what exactly you have in mind, we’llfigure out the best way of doing it :)Cheers,_Oz_On Mar 31, 10:22?pm, ivan <mirage…> wrote:> I think a nice feature would be for each QPad to remember the server> for which it is connected to, i find myself working with multiple> servers at once, and switching between pads loses the original server> link.>> On Mar 13, 5:56?am, Oz <zakharovo…> wrote:>>>>>>>> > Interactive graphs are implemented in latest qpad alpha, along with> > some other stuff.> > While it’s still being polished, stable enough to have some fun> > with. :)> > Link to alpha binaries and explanation/tips on using charts in this> > post:http://www.qinsightpad.com/qipadphpbb_bb1/viewtopic.php?t=6>> > Suggestions and bugreports are welcome as always.</zakharovo…></mirage…>
