Iverson College is the annual week-long retreat for array-language implementors and programmers. Between us we have literally centuries of experience writing in q and its sibling languages. This year, in Suffolk, England, we are hosting a weekend q masterclass. Maybe you should come.

The masterclass

The masterclass, Camp QB, is open to all. It will be taught over Sat 6 and Sun 7 October, and is based on the forthcoming new q Reference, which contains

  • the first full account of the q adverbs, including their use with lists, tables and dictionaries
  • the first integrated account of Apply, Apply At, Index, Index At, Trap and Trap At

Win deeper insight into using adverbs with functions, lists, tables and dictionaries. (Never again wonder whether you need to parenthesise an expression.) Discover how q’s vector-programming roots can bypass SQL-style solutions.

The class will be taught by veteran q programmers Attila Vrabecz and Geo Carncross, and by Stephen Taylor, editor of code.kx.com.

We have places for eight men and eight women.

Who should come?

Come if you know some q and want to know more.

Come to share what you’re working on and get others’ views on it.

Come because you love this strange language and want to meet others that do too.

Venue

Iverson College this year is at Milden Hall in Suffolk. Our Camp QB guests will stay in youth-hostel style accommodation. Or there are four-posters, truckle beds and sofas in the Tudor barn. Or you can camp.

Some of the most useful conversations happen at times you’re not punching keys. We have table tennis, table football, bicycles, tennis and croquet. And then there’s beer pong…

Food

Our chefs won accolades in Tuscany last year. They are preparing buffet breakfasts and lunches. Sat night is a barbecue dinner.

If you come on Friday, join us for dinner that evening at the White Horse in Edmonstone.

Cost

Staying in the bunkhouse: £200

Sleeping in the Tudor barn: £100

Camping: £50
